Calsonic Kansei Marks 80th Anniversary with Stronger Environmental Protection Initiatives

Saitama, Japan -- August 31st, 2018 / Calsonic Kansei Corporation (CK) (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Saitama; President & CEO: Beda Bolzenius) marks the 80th anniversary of the company's foundation by strengthening its initiatives in environmental protection for the future, 80 years from now.

Fulfilling Our Social Responsibility as an Automotive Company
CK has declared "contributing to a sustainable society" as part of its corporate vision. CK recognizes that the actions of the automotive industry, of which CK is part, have a major impact on the global environment. To fulfil its social responsibility, in particular, CK will pursue initiatives to reduce its CO2 footprint and to contribute to environmental protection in the regions in which it operates its businesses. As an initiative to achieve these goals through its business, CK will set its mid- to long-term environmental targets, Green Challenge 2030. At the same time, as a social contribution initiative, CK will conduct the Green Project, a commemorative project that entails tree planting and conservation globally.

Setting of Mid- to Long-Term Environmental Targets, Green Challenge 2030
In March 2018, in response to the expectations surrounding the environment of recent years, CK revised its environmental policy, relaunching it as the CK Green Policy. The mid- to long-term environmental targets, Green Challenge 2030, will be formulated under the CK Green Policy and will form the basis of environmental activities that the company will pursue over the medium to long-term until 2030. Under Green Challenge 2030, CK aims to reduce its CO2 emissions from manufacturing activities by 35% (compared to Fiscal 2016 levels) by Fiscal 2030. Four frameworks are established, namely environmental management, climate change, resource recycling, and environmental pollution/biodiversity, and initiatives will be pursued within those individual frameworks.

80th Anniversary Commemorative Project, Green Project: Planting and Conservation of More Trees than Calsonic Kansei's Global Employees
CK will conduct the Green Project, a global project to commemorate the company's 80th anniversary, through multiple social contribution activities. This project involves the planting and conservation of more trees than the number of Calsonic Kansei employees globally (22,678 in Fiscal 2017). Calsonic Kansei participates in and support a mangrove regeneration project being pursued in Thailand's Ranong Province by OISCA-International. By planting and managing mangroves across an area of approximately 16 hectares, as well as preparing the land for a further approximately 16 hectares of planting, this project aims to reduce the impact of climate change and natural disasters and to mitigate the risks and vulnerability to such disasters, to protect the lives and safety of local residents. In Saitama Prefecture, where CK's global headquarters is located, the company contributes to protecting and maintaining the prefecture's forests. Specifically, it engages in Forestation of the lands owned by Saitama Agriculture and Forestry Corporation and supports the Saitama Greenery Trust Fund in conservation activities in Greenery Trust conservation areas acquired by the Saitama Prefectural Government. The company also plans to conduct environmental protection activities in the forests and conservation areas it supports that will involve participation by CK employees. The company will also continue the forestation and tree-planting activities that its global Group companies have been conducting to date.

At Calsonic Kansei, all employees will come together as a united force to contribute to protecting the global environment, with the aim of building a sustainable society.
